The 7 Major Chakras

1. Base/Root Chakra
The Base or Root Chakra is grounding and life energy, and the seat of our Life Force energy. It represents our will to survive and function in the material world. Proper balance brings courage, stability, physical health and stamina. Governs spinal column, adrenals, colon, anus, legs and bones. Element is Earth, colour is red.
2. Sacral Chakra
Centre of sexual desire, cravings, family life, harmony, tolerance. A healthy sacral charka shows plenty of outgoing energy and a healthy interest in food, enthusiasm to go forward positively and constructively and make the best of life's pleasures, courage and confidence. Governs reproductive organs and bladder. Element is water, colour is orange.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra
Centre of willpower, self-respect, confidence, physical energy and self-control. A healthy solar plexus helps you to feel happy, positive emotions and helps with clear feeling. Governs the adrenals, stomach, liver, muscles, nervous system, digestive system and pancreas. Element is Fire, colour is yellow.
4. Heart Chakra
Centre of compassion, altruism, forgiveness and compassion. Governs the heart, circulatory system, arms, lungs, respiratory system and thymus gland. Element is air, colour is green.
4a. Centre of Heart Chakra
Centre of self-love, self worth and confidence. It is how you see yourself. A balanced centre will show you have confidence and self-respect. Element is air, colour is pink.
5. Throat Chakra
Centre of communication, speech, effect of the spoken word on truth, expansion of consciousness. A balanced centre sees us speaking up from the heart, truthfully. Governs thyroid, throat and mouth. Element is ether, colour is light blue.
6. Third Eye/Brow Chakra
Centre of intuition, insight, and devotion to spiritual knowledge, wisdom and psychic abilities. A balanced centre gives us the ability to connect with our psychic abilities, and the mental expression is that you receive inspiration from other planes in images, symbols etc. You can also see Auras, past lives and the future. Governs pituitary, nose, ears and eyes. Colour: Indigo.
7. Crown Chakra
Highest centre located on the top of the head and is associated with merging of human with the Divine, spiritual unity and final liberation from the karmic wheel and earth plane. Governs the cerebral cortex, central nervous system and pineal gland. Colours are violet, clear, opal, white and gold
Here's some more information on the newly evolved centres:
1. Thymus
Unconditional Love. Located between the heart and throat chakras. Open to all higher spiritual consciousness, as well as having unconditional love for all those around you. Provides the link between heaven and earth. Colour is Turquoise.
2. Cosmic
Located between solar plexus and heart chakras. Communication with spirits, fairies, angels and all higher energy dimensions. Colour is Sea Green.
3. Clair senses
Located between the base and sacral chakras. Tuning into what is not of the physical. Colour is red/brown.
These are relatively newer chakras discovered in the new 'breed' of people coming to earth now; such as Indigos, Crystals and Rainbows. Because more and more people are opening up to their spiritual sides and more accepting, these energy centres are 'awakening' and developing. I must say though, I've seen the Thymus chakra in quite a few people whilst healing so I think we all have it, it's there and it could be just dormant.

Auras, Basic Info
The Aura is the energy field surrounding all life forms.
The primary function of the Aura is to regulate the energy within the body.
The regulation of energy is accomplished through a series of energy transfer points which are the Chakras. The Chakras perform the actual work of regulating the energy. It is impossible to separate the Chakras from the Aura as it is the Chakras that help to form the Aura. Basic energy is drawn up from the planet through the feet and is fed into the Chakras; much like a plant does with water.
Each Chakra is a transformer that generates energy of a different type and colour. All together, these Chakras generate the dominant hue of the aura.
There are seven layers of the Aura, although I will only cover the three main ones to keep this simple:
The First Field The Etheric Layer
The physical Aura is the part of the human energy field that all of us can sense with our ordinary senses. It can be starting at the edge of the skin of the physical body. A colourless gap can be seen between the physical body and the coloured layers of the Aura. It is the densest part of the energy field and is roughly 3 to 4 wide. If a person is in good health then this layer can appear bright with no breaks in it. When it takes on an imbalance, a bulge can be seen and we can become ill or out of sorts. It is the visible counterpart and extension of all the other bodies, in a downward flowing process.
The Second Field The Emotional Layer
The second Auric layer is the Emotional layer. This layer deals with emotions, emotions with us and emotions we have for other people. This layer extends about 2 to 4 and although the form pretty much approximates the human shape, it is not as defined as the Etheric layer. In fact, each layer becomes less and less structured as a physical person. This layer appears as rainbow-coloured clouds. Positive feelings generally create bright colours in this layer, where as negative feelings generally create dark colours. Problems in this aura will eventually lead to problems in the first and third layers.
The Third Field The Mental Layer
The third layer is the mental layer. This is the layer of thought and ideas. It extends to about 8" from the physical body and is usually most visible around the head and shoulders as a yellowish light, especially when one is focusing the mind. Thought forms appear as blobs which may carry other colours if emotions are attached to the thoughts. The more active our thinking processes the brighter our mental Aura becomes.
